Grouping your contacts

Named sets of people in Contacts, built to be acted on as a whole. Create a group, fill it by searching your contacts or by importing a spreadsheet, and it stays a real set rather than a search that changes under you. It is a tab on the Contacts stream, beside its records.

Creating a group

  1. 1

Groups live on the stream marked as your Contacts (the Contacts template on /streams sets one up in a click, and adding a contact field to any stream creates one for you).

  2. 2

Open that stream and click the Groups tab, next to Records.

  3. 3

Click New group, give it a name, and optionally a line describing who is in it.

  4. 4

Names are unique within your organisation, so a second group called the same thing is refused rather than quietly created beside the first.

  5. 5

You land on the group itself, ready to add people.

Who can see groups

  1. 1

Groups are owner and admin only. Members never see the tab and cannot open the pages or the API behind them.

  2. 2

That is because a group spans every contact in the organisation, which is a management view rather than step work.

Where they used to be

  1. 1

Groups used to be a Contact lists item in the sidebar. They are now a tab on Contacts, because a group is a way of slicing your contacts rather than a separate thing to keep.

  2. 2

Old /contact-lists links still work and land on the Groups tab.

What people ask about this

  • How do I create a group of contacts?
  • Where did Contact lists go?
  • Why can't I see groups?

Inside the app there is an assistant that answers these from your own written process, not just from ours.
