Connecting Claude or ChatGPT to Streams
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or any MCP client to Streams, then ask about your records (including looking at their photos), add new ones and move them on by chat or voice. The assistant acts as you: it can only see and do what you can already see and do, and you can disconnect it at any time. Each request it makes to Streams costs 1 token.
Connecting Claude
- 1
Click Copy next to the server address on this page.
- 2
In Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app), open Settings, then Connectors.
- 3
Click Add custom connector and paste the address.
- 4
Claude sends you to Streams. Sign in if asked, check the assistant name, your name and your organisation, and press Allow.
- 5
The connector also works in the Claude mobile app, so you can talk to it by voice.
Connecting ChatGPT
- 1
Click Copy next to the server address on this page.
- 2
In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connectors (called Apps in some versions).
- 3
Add a custom connector or MCP server and paste the address.
- 4
ChatGPT sends you to Streams. Sign in if asked and press Allow.
Connecting Claude Code or another MCP client
- 1
Claude Code: in a terminal run
claude mcp add --transport http streamsfollowed by the server address shown on this page. - 2
In Claude Code, type
/mcp, pick streams and sign in, then press Allow on the Streams screen. - 3
Cursor and other clients that support remote MCP servers with sign-in work the same way: add the address as a Streamable HTTP server, sign in and press Allow.
What the assistant can do
- 1
Answer questions about your records, such as what is stuck at a step or what is overdue.
- 2
Search for records and open one by its reference.
- 3
Create a record, fill in or change its fields, and move it on to the next step.
- 4
Add a note, and (owners and admins) create a task.
- 5
Send an email from a record. It should check the recipient and wording with you first, and the email costs its usual 1 token in place of the request token.
- 6
(Owners and admins) set up a new stream from a template or from a description of your process.
- 7
Review how a stream is set up: its steps in order with their instructions, time targets, required fields and plugins, its fields, and how many records are at each step and how many are overdue. Members only see the steps and fields they can already see.
- 8
(Owners and admins) change a stream's set-up: rename it, add, rename, move or remove a step, set a step's time target, write a step's instructions, choose which fields a step requires and whether members can work on it, add a field, rename a field or change a dropdown's options. It should check each change with you first.
- 9
(Owners and admins) export a stream's records or the audit log as CSV. Up to 500 rows appear in the chat; a bigger export comes as a download link that works while you are signed in to Streams.
- 10
Every change is logged under your name and shows as via the assistant's name in the record's Activity History and the Audit Log.
What it cannot do
- 1
Anything you cannot do yourself. It works in your organisation only, with your role and your stream and step access.
- 2
Skip a required field. If a record is missing one, the assistant gets the same message you would and the record stays where it is.
- 3
Touch billing, users, plugins or other admin settings.
- 4
Delete a field, change a field's type, or change which plugins a step uses. Do those on the stream's settings page.
- 5
Remove a step that has active records on it, or remove one without asking you. Removing a step also deletes its instructions and the automations it triggers, and archived records on it move to the first step.
- 6
Connect without you: nothing happens until you press Allow on the Streams consent screen.
What it costs
- 1
Every request the assistant makes to Streams, whether a question, a search or a change, costs 1 token from your organisation's monthly allowance. One message to the assistant can be several requests.
- 2
An email it sends costs the email's usual 1 token instead of the request token.
- 3
The Billing page shows assistant use as AI assistants under where your tokens went.
- 4
If the organisation runs out of tokens, the assistant is told and nothing runs until an owner or admin tops up or upgrades on Billing.
Disconnecting an assistant
- 1
Under Your connected assistants, find the assistant. Each row shows when it was connected and last used.
- 2
Click Disconnect and confirm. It loses access straight away.
- 3
To use it again, connect it again and press Allow.
- 4
You only see your own assistants. Everyone in your organisation connects and disconnects their own.
Turning assistants off for the organisation
- 1
Owners and admins: open Plugins and find the AI assistants card.
- 2
Turn the Enabled switch off. Every assistant in the organisation is disconnected and nobody can connect a new one.
- 3
Turn it back on to allow them again. People may need to sign in to their assistant again.
